The Planets Lesson 3
Our vitalizing principle and Will; our Wholeness; the Principle of self-integration (or how we put our act together).
Our Subconscious or habit-mind; our instinctive responses and internal rhythms; and how we deal with the public, with women and with our mothers
Our mind and our nervous system; shows how we think and communicate.
Our uniting principle; shows how we love and form intimate relationships; also represents our creativity and our love of beauty.
Our energy and activity; our enterprise and our basic sexual drive.
Our Principle of expansion and growth; our generosity and optimism; also represents education, philosophy and travel.
The Principle of limitation and restriction; our ability to focus; our discrimination and self-discipline. Also represents our focus and our lesson in life.
The principle of change and deviation; our invention and independence; our genius and inspiration.
The refining, dissolving principle. Our spiritual nature. Also represents confusion, drugs and escapism.
Principle of transformation and regeneration; also represents release of energy and elimination.
The first two entries, the Sun and the Moon, are two parts of the Big Three in Astrology; the Sun represents our most individual self while the Moon, our subconscious side, shows how we will instinctively react to Life. The next two planets, Venus (love) and Mercury (mind) will show how we relate to other, and our ability to think and to communicate. Since their orbits lie within that of earth; as viewed from earth they will never be seen very far from the Sun sometimes leading, and sometimes following. But their apparent orbits are (very roughly) one year. Therefore they are called our Personal Planets.
The first of the outer planets, Mars, represents our sex drive and our energy; its orbit is about two years and (interestingly) marks the time an infant becomes a toddler. Both Jupiter and Saturn represent Principles that we can use to guide our lives. Jupiter governs our growth and expansion, and also represents travel and education; it takes about 12 years to go through all the signs. Obviously, the first orbit of Jupiter is completed when humans reach puberty. Saturn represents our ability to focus, and to discriminate and takes about 29 years to move through all the signs; thus Saturn marks our coming of age and reaching full maturity.
The outer most planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move so slowly they take anywhere from a decade to a generation to move through one sign. We shall take up these planets somewhat later in the course.
