From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaNadi astrology (naadi jothidam) is a form of astrology practised in Tamil Nadu, India. It is based on the belief that the past, present and the future lives of all humans were written by Hindu sages in ancient times on Palm leaves.
According to Hindu mythology, thousands of years ago sages who had the power to look in the past and future of the entire universe recorded the future of people who were living and who are going to live, in the form of Tamil verses, as Palm Leaf Manuscripts. The text is written in Vatteluttu, which is an ancient Tamil script. There are different schools of thought as to the author of these leaves. They were said to be written down by different Hindu sages, who had divine revelations. Some of the sages include Agasthiya, Brighu, Kaushika, Vyasa, Valmiki and Vasishtha. This doctrine of astrology was made famous by astrologers around the Vaitheeswaran Temple in the state of Tamil Nadu and is still practiced around the temple by their descendents.
The source point of Nadi Astrology leaves can be traced back to approximately more then 2000 years. These Nadi leaves were initially stored in the premises of Tanjore Saraswati Mahal Library of Tamilnadu. The British rulers later showed interest in the Nadi leaves concerned with herbs and medicine, future prediction etc; but ironically left most of the Nadi prediction leaves to their loyal people. Some leaves got destroyed and the remaining were auctioned during the British rule. These Nadi leaves were obtained and possessed by the families of astrologers in Vaitheeswaran Temple. This is an art passed down the years from one generation to the other.
The notion that astrologers claim these predictions were made for all human beings who have lived or will ever live is not completely true. Nadi astrologers say only a certain number of souls' future predictions are there in the leaves. They are reported cases of exact match in the past details and future predictions. Since the prophecy is written in the form of Tamil verses, their interpretation is subject to the nadi astrologer's way of understanding and interpreting them. But those who can understand poetic Tamil (professors, etc.) can understand the verses without the help of an astrologer.
Procedure Usually, the astrologer asks for the thumb impression (right hand for males and left hand for females). The astrologer then searches his repository of leaves for the seeker's classification of thumb print. Finally, the minimum possible set of matching leaves is brought. Every leaf corresponds to some individual and hence will bear the birth and kinship details of its seeker. So the seeker is asked a series of questions, based on the verses, so as to find the exact match. These questions are to be answered a yes or no. The exact leaf of seeker is said to get only 'yes' responses from the seeker. Once the exact leaf is found, the astrology tells the seeker's name, parents name, spouse name and many other details about his future, since they are all written in the leaf. The first chapter (kaandam) in the leaf has the general overview of its seeker's life. Then the kandams that follow this are specific ones like Marriage, Profession, etc. The list of chapters and details are as follows:
1. It contains a gist of future predictions corresponding to the 12 houses of the horoscope, a general overview of the seeker's life with age. Is also a general summary of the 11 kandams that follows it:
2. This Kandam is about Family, Education, Eyes, Money and Intuition.
3. This Kandam is about Brothers & Sisters, Relationships between them and self.
4. This Kandam is about Mother and Comforts through House, Land and Vehicles.
5. This Kandam is about Children and births, reason for not having any, future lifestyle of children.
6. This Kandam is about troubles and hardships due to Disease, Debts Enemies, Litigations or Cases.
7. This Kandam is about first Union or Marriage and Status of married life. Also contains hints of valuable information about the name of the future spouse, horoscope, age of marriage, and some characteristic features of the spouse etc.
8. This Kandam is about lifespan and Longetivity, Accidents and dangers with indication of time and age during one's lifetime.
9. This Kandam is about Father, Wealth, Visits to holy places, Fortune; Benefit from the preaching's of Guru and holy people, charitable deeds and social life.
10. This Kandam is about Career, Job, Profession and Business, Good and Bad times in career. Future predictions about growth, prosperity and losses in one's job or business.
11. This Kandam is about Second or further marriages, Profits in business etc.
12. This Kandam is about Expenditures, Foreign Visits, Next birth and Salvation.
Separate Kandams:
13. Shanti Pariharam: This Kandam is about past life or birth, bad and good deeds and a series of rituals that can dilute the effect of past bad deeds.
14. Deeksha Kandam: This Kandam is about the methods of preparing the Mantra Raksha, that has the power to shield the self from evil forces of jealous and envy. Raksha ensures relatively better rewards for one's efforts and success in deeds.
15. Avushada Kandam: This Kandam is about medicines, prescription suggested to those suffering from chronic diseases.
Initially, only the first chapter is read to the seeker. If the seeker needs further details on some particular chapter (like Business, Health, Marriage etc), then the corresponding chapter's verses are read to him/her. The seeker is also advised rituals which can correct the future mishappenings, there by leading to a choice.
Criticism
Like Feng shui, Naadi Astrology attracts several Business and Corporate clients. In recent years, there has been criticism regarding Nadi Astrology, denouncing it as a pseudo-science. The fortune tellers are accused of charging exorbitant amounts from customers.

This people are a fake. I have been there and personally got my naadi astrolgoy done. the man takes all the information from you and tells you the same back. I have tried inquiring about my past events in detail to check their autheticity, and the reply was a straight and rude " Don't you know it." Stay away from such quacks.
the problem is: it exist false naadi, and real naadi... The good precision of this science, attracts charlatans.

These people are indeed Fake.Its a form of organised crime done under the pretext of Agastya's ancient scripture,to exploit gullible people.All the information is drawn from you under the guise of finding your exact Tadi,through hundreds of questions.Then it's pretended as if all is written on it ,ever since.I bet if they could ever part with the exact content of what is being written on the Tadi.When so much of information is there on it,there is absolutely no probablity that it could be of anyone else but you,so what's harm sharing the Tadi and what's the point keeping it then onwards ,as there wont be anyone else with the same details.

i also agree with all the critics that people given.These Naadi Astrologer people are fake. They misguide the people. They ask you so many question and repeate same thing to you in other language. if they know future of every thing and solution of everthing then what they are doing here. why they cant sucsess and do something for India. they know future then why they didnt find out where bomb blast and other accident going to happened? why they cant save life of so many people who are dead in many bomb blast.
if this is true then why they didnt teach to us. and they didnt give proper expalination of our questions.. EVERTHING IS FAKE... for every women they told that you were very beautful in last life so for maintaing that beauty you didnt birth to child or you were dominant to your husband.. if this is 2000yr written just imagine what was condition of women at that time...
another thing wenever some couple who are in love affair goes to visit them they tell to every couple that you marriage is not possibe. you will not get satisfaction each other(hoe they know???)and you will get seprate in future by divorce or either one of them will be dead..

Yes, i completely agree. These people who call themselves as genuine Nadi Astrologers are FAKE. When you actually visit and interact with them, the real story comes out. They will very smartly ask questions about your family , job and you will unknowingly provide them answers. The same things they will write down in story format, as if they have found your leaf. They are clearly into business. Don't fall prey to these junk people.

i have had a very positive experience with a naadi astrologer in mumbai...yes you must take care that they are genuine but i did not experience any of the things that you all have written about. he have me correct names of family memebere and knowledge about my past and family without me giving much information and certain things he said about the future are already happening. i guess it depends on who you go to. its sad that there are so many fakes out there who take advantage of people but there are genuine ones too so if it's in your destiny you will get your future read from the right person.
Look people, whatever the case may be.
One cannot deny the fact that they actually tell us our forefather's name, which by no means our thump impression can suggest a commom man.
So, there is some unknown procedure of it's findings.
It is just this instance which amazes all and they ultimately believe in the future which they forecast. What I would suggest people is to get it done, but only trust upon it's reliability when the future of your family members is somehow inter-related.
With all due respect to the Nadi Astrologers, I do not ask you not to try it out, but yes, do believe in the past they say and make your future a reality if it's a good pridiction.

My response to all this is in between. It can neither be accepted immeidiately nor it can be tagged as fake. Some people who want to mint money thru this or Lal Kitab may be fake but there would be some reality.
Astrology has been there ever since human beings have been there.
Lord Ram got 14 years exile at the exact moment when the astrologers predicted that he would be the next king of ayodhaya.
See i dont say whether u should believe on this or not.
Even I dont have answers to the fact as to how they can very precisely tell us what we were in our past life. They also tell how good or bad we were and how our life is impacted thru our past deeds.
See if we think about all this very logically then it can be very easily proven to be fake.
Even an average mind can feel and find faults in this.
while there would be many people who would blindly listen to them and do exactly whatever is advised to them.
The answer is that we need to enlighten our own spiritual mind and seek answers within and then act accordingly.
You could believe them and do whatever advised if u have that much of money to be parted off and then work on ur best and create your own success.
If it matches with ur leaf predictions or improves based on prayers then its good, if it does not, then also who cares, since u already lived the life the way u wanted and decided.
So with or without Naadi, I strongly beleive that MAN IS THE ARCHITECT OF HIS OWN FATE.

Naadi is absolutely true, they tell you your date of birth,. which they never ask.
they tell you future.... which i have experienced, happens.
I have seen everything going according to them.

I have also seen that one of my friend, the first leaf or tadi that you may call it, was his, so that means without gathering information from him they told the answers.....
Its absolutely true that these fellows are all fakes from tamil nadu.All of you have written the correct conclusions of all these so called readers.
Simply can you all not think as to why all the frauds and scams are so rapant only in Tamil Nadu,in spite of the so camlled wonders of Nadi readings?
I myself is a victim of these fellows due to which I resigned my job and started my own business which flopped to the basement of life itself.

Demi-gods or lower gods also finds a place in creation. Some of the services of the lower gods are easily purchased for a “joint-venture” or so to be called. The percentage of profit is agreed from the temple they purchase and has to be given to the temple failing which the results could be disastrous. It is not possible to cheat the demi-gods as the demigods are after all divine incarnations.
When the victim approaches the astrologer for help, the astrologer asks various queries - as mentioned above. The answers of these queries are actually questions posed to demigod to get the correct identity of the person. Once it is got, all other past details are easily available by the demigod. These details are only heard by the astrologer. This may sound unscientific but really is not.
Demigods are unable to accurately predict the future and hence the predictions are mostly not correct. Demigods are also used by astrologers, sooth-sayers, magicians, fraud god-men who materialise processed goods from scratch, which really is only badwords not shownfting i.e, dematerializing, badwords not shownfting and rematerializing.
How I came to know about it?
I have a friend who is an ardent badwords not shownva devotee and made a small portion of his house as badwords not shownva temple. He has been a badwords not shownva Devotee and has been continuing for the past 25 yrs or so. But their hereditary god is a demigod. It seems the hereditary god also wanted to be revered and so he wanted a separate temple for it. HE WAS ALSO GIVEN THE PRIVILEGE of asking questions (or thinking and posing questions) to demigod and he would get the answer ABOUT PAST AND INCIDENTS.
But my friend never used this privilege for monetary gains. For those who come with problem, he just queries it and suggests solutions for their well being. He has helped me many times – a couple of them to say - when I misplaced very important file in my office and also when my colleague created havoc for creating bad name for me in office.
When I wanted to know about the practice of Nadi Astrology I asked for his help and he let me know the actual functioning of it by querying it with demi-god.
Sage Agasthya no doubt was a great sage. But it is ridiculous to say that he wrote the names and fate of persons before 1200 yrs as if everything is destined and future generations does not have free will at all.
I just wanted to share the information. It is the wish of the readers to believe or not. If at all you believe, please share the information and prevent the cheats from taking over.

Fakes you can call them. But you have to really understand where they come from. The growth of all the frauds do make this seem real. That is what usually takes place. The truth of these nadi readings always come out. Thanks for the posts

Your post is interesting and reading the comments of the people above makes me more interested about Nadi astrology. I guess there are really lots of arguments if we talk about astrology and it's hard to know who to believe because there are many fake or so-called astrologers that only confuse other people.

I have been to one Nadi Astrologer in Santacruz, Mumbai. On the pretext of finding the right leaf the astrologer asked me a lot of questions. During this they allowed only me in the room whereas after this process they called my father inside who was accompanying me.
Whatever information he took from me was reiterated by him along with some future predictions which was mere fiction. I had been asked for 1250 Rupees for knowing the General prediction and one chapter about my Career and Business (750+500).
They will make you lose your confidence by telling you depressing future in front you awaits you so that you will fall in their trap to seek a remedy for the bad luck.
Beware of these quacks. No doubt Nadi Astrology must be a good astrology method but only done by the genuine ones.
The last thing you want while you are going through a bad patch to further loose your mind and money to these unscrupulous quacks. As the hangover of this things last long.

I am student of astrology practsing astrology from past 20 years .our sages have produced many such amazing things that can not be explained in present context or u can say with modern tools of science,. i personally visited many naadi readers and found that this VIDYA is unique but ......this is true many naadi readers failed to predict the future as they predict past events with accuracy.but this does not mean this is FAKE .we need to do research in this field as we are doing in any other subject.............
