You are basically apprehensive about asserting yourself because you are afraid you will encounter a lot of opposition. You underestimate your capabilities. In competition with others you prefer to move slowly at first so as to gain self-confidence. When pressured excessively, you tend to withdraw rather than fight. You avoid challenges whenever possible and are defensive when you do accept them. However, if forced to defend yourself, you will use every trick you know for protection.

You are a late starter in defining the goals you hope to achieve. Because you are too cautious and self-disciplined for your own good, you deprive yourself of many opportunities. Some people may think of you as cold and indifferent, but in fact you are serious and responsible. From your experiences you have learned that you have to earn everything you get, and you do not expect to get any rewards without making a substantial contribution. You are a perfectionist and are not content unless you can do your very best at all times.

Your early home life was probably an austere experience. It would seem that there was little warmth between you and your parents, and you were expected to perform your duties without question. Though you respected your parents or guardians, it is not likely that you feel any great tenderness for them. The result is that now you are extremely cautious and reserved when dealing with people in authoritative positions.

You are very preoccupied with achieving a position that will reasonably assure your financial security. You are far more talented than you know, and you will eventually realize this as you gain the success and recognition you deserve. In your determination to realize your goals, you persist in spite of setbacks. The security you gain in your material affairs compensates for your emotional insecurity about meeting someone who will share your life completely.

You may be hesitant in your approach to a potential lover, which makes it more difficult to make your desires and intentions known. Essentially your partner may think you are saying no when you really mean yes. For this reason you are happiest with a lover who knows you well and can sense your desires without your having to make them too explicit. If you are fortunate enough to have such a partner, you would be very unwise to reject him or her in favor of playing the field. If your lover is committed to you, be particularly caring and generous with material gifts. You may sometimes be inclined to withhold yourself, either personally or financially, which can unintentionally make you seem rather cold to your partner.

You may have to doubly emphasize your messages of love, because what seems emphatic enough to you may seem insufficient and insincere to your partner. If you want your partner to see your real intentions, you will have to almost overcompensate for the above mentioned tendencies. An observant partner or friend can be a great help, cluing you in as to when to change or add to your presentation so that your intentions will be interpreted correctly by those around you.
